Concentrations

The UF MBA Program offers tremendous variety in shaping your curriculum to best prepare you for your chosen career or industry. There are no required majors for our degree; however, many students choose to design their curriculum around one of our 14 market-driven concentrations.

You can choose one or combine several concentrations specific to your needs and aspirations. Or, you may choose to design your own general management concentration by selecting a variety of electives.


  • Competitive Strategy

    Develops and applies analytical methods to study managerial decision problems to prepare students for careers in corporate finance, corporate strategy, management consulting, and related occupations. Students in the Competitive Strategy concentration must take four of the Competitive Strategy Electives listed below:

  • General Business

    This concentration allows students to tailor their academic experience to fit their specific skill set. Students are free to choose electives from all concentrations. Any student not selecting one of the other concentrations will be awarded the General Business concentration.

  • Global Management

    This concentration is available to Traditional Program students who wish to study overseas at an approved exchange partner institution. During the summer and/or fall semester of their second year, students take pre-approved graduate level business classes at another institution. One-year MBA students interested in this certificate program are encouraged to contact the MBA Program office as attaining this certificate may require you to delay your graduation.

    Designed for the student who seeks a career path in human resource management, as well as the student who wants a dual concentration in areas such as Marketing, Real Estate, Finance, or Decision and Information Sciences. Students in this concentration must take four of the following Human Resource Management Electives:

  • Information Systems and Operations Management
    IS/IT Track or Supply Chain Management Track

    To obtain the concentration, students must complete four graduate courses offered by the ISOM Department. In selecting courses, a natural grouping of courses based on sub-specialties is as follows.

    Information Systems/Information Technology (IS/IT): Students who choose this sub-specialty are interested in obtaining a business perspective on applications and strategies driven by IS/IT based systems. Specific courses relating to this area are:

    Supply Chain Management: Students who choose this sub-specialty are interested in studying supply chain management. Specific courses relating to this area are:

    Through this concentration, students learn how operating in an international environment affects business decisions. They develop a better understanding of global trade and growth patterns, investment in other countries, and international financial markets, all of which are important to being an effective global manager.   • Latin American Business

    The recent expansion of global markets has replaced historical broad international departments with region-specific departments in major financial, investment, manufacturing and consulting firms. Successful managers need both general international business skills and specific geographical area expertise. Within the global marketplace, Latin American economies offer exceptional opportunities for international trade, investment and finance. This concentration combines broad international business skills with specific understanding of the economic policies, legal and business structures, and sociocultural traditions that shape the context of Latin American business. Students must take four of the Latin American Business Electives below. Language proficiency in Spanish and/or Portuguese is not required for the concentration, but is strongly recommended for students who subsequently decide to pursue positions in Latin American departments of US firms or in Latin American based industries.

    Focuses on the basics of real estate market analysis, finance, and valuation. Students develop an understanding of real estate as an investment vehicle and learn how to make effective business decisions involving real estate, equity valuation, and the structuring of real estate transactions. Students in this concentration must take four of the Real Estate Electives listed below:

    Studies financial statement analysis, security applications and corporate finance valuation problems. This concentration is available thanks to the Graham-Buffett Teaching Endowment, established by O. Mason Hawkins. The endowment is named after the late securities scholar, Benjamin Graham, and his most celebrated student, Warren E. Buffett. Students in this concentration must take four courses in the following list:

    Designed to educate students to become administrators in a variety of sports settings. Included are the areas of intercollegiate, professional, and highly organized amateur sports. Students in this concentration must take three of the courses listed below. These courses do not count towards the MBA degree, only towards the Sports Administration concentration:
